Spay & Neuter

A spay procedure is performed on female cats and dogs, and involves removing the ovaries and uterus. In addition to removing the possibility of reproducing, the benefits of spaying include eliminating risk of pyometra (an infected uterus), decreased risk of mammary cancers, and reduced behavioral issues.

A neuter procedure is performed on male cats and dogs and involves removing the testicles. In addition to removing the possibility of reproducing, neutering can minimize unwanted behavior due to testosterone such as urine marking and aggression. It also eliminates the risk of testicular cancers and enlargement of the prostate.

Ideal age of spay or neuter is dependent on breed, size, and individual pet lifestyles. Talk to us about the appropriate time to spay or neuter your pet.
